Plus Point
Vishal gives a brilliant and convincing performance as Rathnam. He shines in action sequences, displaying great physicality and body language. Vishal basically carries the entire film on his shoulders.
The film has some well thought out actions that might appeal to a wider audience. Priya Bhavani Shankar and Samuthirakani are decent games in their respective roles.
Devi Sri Prasad’s music is a highlight, harkening back to the early days of his career. Two of the songs are well arranged and stand out.
While it’s an original mystery story about who’s after Mallika and why Rathnam risks his life for her, your critique highlights Vishal’s strong lead performance, thrilling action sequences and musical a it will be emphasized that the strength of the film.
Minus Point
While director Hari is known for delivering good entertaining films and but he misses the mark with Rathnam. The film’s narration fails to hook the audience, with many boring stretches and a sluggish pace at multiple points.
The entertainment value is lacking, which exposes issues with the script. The second half is overstuffed with action sequences at the expense of drama, becoming tiresome after a while. The editing could have been tighter to shorten the overlong runtime.
Hari attempts to depict a particular emotion between the lead characters, but doesn’t quite sell it convincingly. Since this emotion drives the entire film, it’s difficult to connect with emotionally. The humor lands occasionally but comedian Yogi Babu is underutilized. Veteran actor Murali Sharma has little to do.
While Vishal’s lead performance, the action set pieces, and the music are strengths, the plodding narrative pace and lack of engrossing emotional throughline undercut the film’s overall impact and entertainment value. Tighter editing may have helped the momentum.
Technical Analysis
Ultimately, director Hari disappoints with his inability to craft truly entertaining moments throughout Rathnam. For an action film, the lack of an engrossing emotional through-line is a major flaw – it leaves the film feeling soulless and hollow despite the physical action sequences.
While the technical crew contributed some strong work, Hari’s directorial shortcomings in sustaining entertainment value and crafting a compelling emotional core prove to be Rathnam’s critical weaknesses. The final product ends up a rote, punishingly long affair despite fleeting high points in the action, music and visuals.
Review
Overall, Rathnam is a disappointing action drama that fails to deliver enough emotional impact. Though Vishal does well in his Jananayak role and the film has some well-choreographed action sequences, the main emotional driving plot is quite unbelievable – and this is the biggest issue with the film ho is entertainment value fast moving director Hari is known because it is largely absent here. The ending section drags on unnecessarily and becomes tiresome to sit through after a while. Due to these shortcomings, other film options should be considered instead of Rathnam this weekend.
