Story

Goutham (played by Satyam Raj) and Sandhya (played by Megha Chaudhary) are a couple who are initially happy together. However, their relationship takes a sharp turn for the worse. One day Sandhya dies under mysterious circumstances. Goutham becomes the prime suspect in the investigation into his wife’s death. At the same time, their neighbor Rishi (played by Bharatkanth) also attempts suicide.

The film explores why the relationship between a once happy couple didn’t work out so well. It also looks into whether there is any connection between Sandhya’s mysterious death and the professor’s suicide attempt. The main question is whether Goutham actually killed his wife Sandhya. The story revolves around the unraveling of this mystery and the events surrounding the couple’s downfall.

Plus Point

The makers of Tenant kept the movie relatively short at 1 hour 30 minutes, which is a good decision. Making it a 2-hour long movie was unnecessary for this particular story. The filmmakers understood that and kept the runtime concise, which other filmmakers should take note of.

The last 20 minutes of the movie offer shocking twists that are very disturbing for the audience. The director delivered an impactful social message, and the penultimate portions are emotionally moving.

Actor Satyam Rajesh has been taking on different roles lately, and he does a pretty good job in his subtle performance in Tenant. Megha Chowdhury is satisfactory in her role as an innocent housewife.

Bharath Kanth and Chandana Payavvula shine in their significant roles. Esther is decent as an investigating officer. The anchor Chandu also impresses in his role.

Overall, the concise storytelling, shocking twists, social message and performances are the highlights praised about this film.

Minus Point

The main issue with Tenant is that it fails to create the necessary tension and suspense that a feature film needs. While the style is different from conventional films, it doesn’t have the desired effect.

Despite being touted as an emotional thriller, Tenant lacks major thrills and a compelling story. The story captures the attention of the audience in no time.

The pace is very slow for most of the running time, which seems to be the choice the filmmakers wanted. However, this simple statement may not appeal to everyone.

The director tries to show the tension between the main couple played by Satyam Rajesh and Megha Chaudhary mainly through scenes without much dialogue Despite the different approach, it could have done a better job with the background line a effectively, without.

The second half also begins normally before becoming compelling towards the end. But overall, despite tackling a social issue, the film ends up being a poor experience due to its lack of interest and slow pace

Technical Analysis

The music composer Sahitya Sagar’s work is decent in parts. The songs are nice, but the background score fails to make an impact. The cinematography by Jemin Jom Ayyaneth complements the film’s tone very well. However, the editing could have been better. The production values are good overall.

The director Yungandhar also wrote the screenplay for Tenant. While the narration style is unconventional, it lacks the desired punch. The entire first half is devoted to depicting the mental trauma of the lead couple, played by Satyam Rajesh and Megha Chowdhury. However, these portions end up being quite boring and fail to engage the audience sufficiently.

Review

Tenant deals with a relevant social issue, but the way it’s presented on screen doesn’t quite do the story justice.

Leading actors Satyam Rajesh, Megha Chaudhary and Chandana have done a good job. The last few minutes of the film are also a hit with the audience.

While the plot is different from conventional films, the overall story lacks enough tension and suspense to make it a completely satisfying viewing experience.

If more care had been taken in the development and construction of the text, the impact and effectiveness in dealing with the social issue could have been much better.

So basically – it tackles a story with acclaimed performances and an ending, but the overall lack of criticism and compelling tension is the shortcomings of the screenwriting, which prevented the film from making a solid impact which they want
