Strength
While many films feature interview scenes, “The Trial” stands out by making it the central focus, marking it as the first interview film in Telugu cinema Carefully designed these images to capture the attention of the audience.
Vibration Palli shines in her performance, keeping viewers enthralled with her character’s actions and expressions till the end. She effortlessly portrays her character and applauds her performance.
Vamsi Kotu also gives a strong performance, and despite the short runtime, Yugram portrays his character well.
The film and the musical score add depth to the film and elevate its overall quality. The revelations in the second half keep viewers engaged until the end.
Weakness
Director Ram Ganni’s vision for the film is commendable, but some aspects could have been improved to better engage the audience. The pace of the first half could have easily caught the spectators’ attention from the start. Besides, the conversation between Roopa and Rajeev could have been better scripted to create more suspense in the story.
While Vamsi Kotu’s performance as a whole is satisfactory, there are times when he seems to pause during dialogue delivery, which can give the impression that he has forgotten his words.
The first half of the film is decent until the interviews begin, and it can feel a bit draggy. However, the director manages to control this theme in the first half and carries the second half with a well-crafted cinematography.
A more subtle approach to casting could expand the film’s appeal to a wider audience.
Technical Aspects
As both a writer and director, Raam Ganni’s work is acceptable, though there’s room for improvement. Providing more opportunities for creative yet compelling conversations could have elevated “The Trial” into an outstanding viewing experience, especially in the first half.
The film greatly benefits from Sai Kumar Dara’s stunning cinematography and Saravana Vasudevan’s score, which enrich the overall cinematic experience.
Review
The Trial is an average crime thriller. Spandana Pilli, the lead actress, gives a good performance. The cinematography and background music are well done. But some of the scenes are boring, the first half moves too slowly, and there’s no strong central conflict. People who really enjoy crime thrillers appreciate The Trial more than others.
